Since the events of Dumblaine it is illegal to own hand guns and pistols of any type in the UK apart from air pistols. Consequently British hopes of any 50m pistol medals are pretty remote and now the only pistol discipline that can be practiced in the UK is 10m air pistol. Pistols can be spring powered but normally run on compressed air or CO2 . Targets are quite small and like 10m air rifle this is not an easy event.
The only exception to this is a peculiar thing called a long arm pistol which is really a .22 pistol with long counterweight arms that extend behind it. These arms mean that because of the overall length of the weapon it actually is classed a rifle despite the fact that it is fired one handed. Use of long arms is permitted at Keighley
