Match Air Rifle

If you wish to shoot air rifle at international or Olympic level then 10m match air rifle is the discipline for you. Who ever made the comment that it wasn’t serious enough to be an Olympic event has obviously never tried it because most shooters who have, agree that this is probably the most difficult of all the shooting events. Despite the fact that the distance is only 10m, the targets are minute, with the bull being just .5mm in diameter.
It is shot free standing using recoiless, half powered .177 air rifles using pinhole sights. To stand any chance you also need a rigid jacket, and ideally pants, boots and a special stand, but these are not essential.

A 10m air rifle target. The coin in the bottom right corner is 10p to give some scale. One shot is fire at each diagram. The bull is the dot in the centre of each target and must be obliterated to score 10. Clipping the first ring without touching the centre dot only scores 9.
